Exfoliation: How Often & When?

We all know that guy whose skincare regime consists of a facial scrub, used once a day in the shower, with little heed paid to whether this act is part of a cleansing or exfoliation routine. It’s time for an intervention, as this is probably doing more harm than good.

Few things feel as satisfying as a good exfoliation or that feeling when your skin feels perfectly smooth and clear, so it’s not hard to understand why some people will choose to incorporate a facial scrub into their daily skincare regime and there have been many cases made over the years as to why one should exfoliate every day.

However, the truth is that daily exfoliation not only strips your skin of its natural oils, but can also lead to dryness and the constant aggravation can lead to fine lines and broken veins.

However, it is important to exfoliate to remove dead skin cells, but it is about balance. I would exfoliate no more than five times a week, ideally in the morning as you don’t want any stronger oils or serums that you may use at night time to add irritation.

My Purifying Peat Scrub (€12.95) is an ideal skin rejuvenation tool that will leave your skin feeling fresh and looking polished. As is the case with the entire Kennedy & Co. range, this product is cruelty and paraben-free and vegan-friendly, so will not irritate. Its key ingredient — peat — also works to increase elasticity and restore the skin’s natural pH balance, meaning that you won’t get that tight feeling you often get after many other facial scrubs.
