This year’s biggest hair trends

Over the last number of years, there has been a noticeable surge in the number of barbershops popping up, as the male grooming market continues to be one of the world’s most rapidly growing industries. Some commentators have attributed this to the ‘Love Island effect’, with young guys as equally concerned about their grooming processes as their female counterparts. Realistically, this started with the likes of David Beckham nearly two decades ago when it seemed like he sported a new haircut every week. When it comes to hair, long gone are the days of the monthly short back and sides, as guys are now heading to their barber up to twice a month to maintain that perfect coif.

For 2019, men’s hair trends are really leaning towards a more playful approach, meaning that whatever way you cut your hair; you want to achieve a level of texture and movement in that style. Key styles to note include a natural wave with (apparent) minimal effort à la Shawn Mendes, Rami Malek’s updated undercut that doesn’t rely on a super-stylised quiff or a slightly tousled-looking crop as seen on the Lanvin runway.

Whichever look you choose, the Kennedy & Co. Matte Hair Clay (€12.95) has you covered. A little goes a long way with this product and the best way to apply it is by massaging it onto your hands until it has all but disappeared (the heat of your hands from rubbing makes it turn transparent) and then run it through your hair from the root upwards. Begin with a small amount and add more if your hair is thicker and absorbs product faster. As it has a matte application, you will avoid having that shiny-looking hair or wet-look finish that now looks quite dated. This hair clay also boasts the addition of Baicapil™, which is a trademarked ingredient proven to stimulate hair growth, reducing hair loss and increasing hair thickness — so it really is a win-win!
